29-year-old Brittany Maynard, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and became the face of the death with dignity movement, has ended her life, according to an organization she worked with closely.

Supporters of Brittany Maynard have taken to Twitter to send her wishes.

"Rest in peace Brittany Maynard," wrote Twitter user Patrick Gone.

Fellow Twitter user Xeni added, "Brittany Murphy was a clear-headed woman facing death from cancer. There are many ways to accept this. Hers is one of the many noble choices."

Maynard reportedly took lethal medication prescribed by a doctor and died late Saturday "as she intended - peacefully in her bedroom, in the arms of her loved ones," Sean Crowely, a Compassion & Choices spokesman, said in a statement today, according to ABC News.

"We're sad to announce the passing of a dear and wonderful woman, Brittany Maynard. She passed peacefully in her bed surrounded by close family and loved ones," wrote Compassion & Choices, a non-profit that works to improve care and expand the choices for people at the end of their lives, on its Facebook page.

Maynard reportedly gained attention after releasing a video last month for the organization discussing her terminal illness and why she chose to end her life. The video has garnered over 9.9 views on YouTube.

Maynard reportedly moved with her husband of two years, Daniel Diaz, from San Francisco to Oregon, who has a Death with Dignity program, after she was diagnosed. She had reportedly told People magazine that she chose November 1 as the day she would die.

"I really wanted to celebrate my husband's birthday. I'm getting sicker, dealing with more pain and seizures and difficulties so I just selected it," stated Maynard.

During an October 8 interview with The Associated Press, Maynard revealed that her husband and other relatives accepted her decision, according to the Boston Herald.

"I think in the beginning my family members wanted a miracle; they wanted a cure for my cancer. When we all sat down and looked at the facts, there isn't a single person that loves me that wishes me more pain and more suffering," she had stated.
