Ted bishop and the PGA had a falling out. Bishop's most popular comment was his tweet calling Ian Poulter "a little girl." Bishop had blasted Poulter after he criticized Nick Faldo who had disapproving comments of Sergio Garcia.
Long since he was sacked, Bishop has already apologized about his words and actions. He said "I want to apologise to Ian Poulter and anyone else that I might have offended with my remarks. I have great remorse that my comments contained the words 'little girl' because I have always been a great advocate for girls and women in golf."
But he did not only apologize to Poulter but also to the Golf lovers all around the world.
He said "I really regret, like you can't imagine, what I did, what I said, particularly the implications that came out of it. I've asked myself a lot, what would have been a better choice of words than the phrase 'little girl.' If I would have said 'little boys' would this have been different?"
Bishop tried to defend his actions by blaming the social media and that his emotions just went ahead of himself when issues of Tom Watson went crazy after the Ryder Cup. It can be remembered that he handpicked Watson to be the captain of the US team.
He said "I overreacted emotionally and I'm embarrassed and I apologize."
He adds "What I was really trying to say was, 'why don't we all just grow up?' I think the icons in the game should be treated with a certain amount of reverence and I felt like that didn't happen necessarily with Tom after the Ryder Cup and it wasn't happening with Nick then."
According to Bishop, it took him around 90 minutes of phone checking when he realized that his tweet has caused him trouble. He said "Someone had labeled me a sexist and I knew immediately I had a huge problem. It was not in my words and it wasn't apologetic in any way, shape or form."
And now that the issue has subsided, he feels remorseful. He adds "This is not an apology just because it's the right thing to do; I'm feeling terrible because of all the things I've done in my career to help women, to be an advocate for women."
