Brittany Maynard Dies At 29 On November 1st – As She Had Originally Planned; Maynard’s Death Fuels Debate On ‘The Right To Die’

Brittany Maynard dies at 29 years old. She was a terminally ill woman who had a long battle with bran cancer.

Maynard decided to end her life on Sunday inside her Oregon home.

She was diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant brain tumor in early January. After finding out about her medical condition, she revealed her plans of taking the medications that were prescribed for her, but will want to die once the pain becomes unbearable.

Compassion and Choices, a non-profit group, posted a message on Facebook that said Maynard died peacefully in her bed, while she was surrounded by her family members and loved ones.

Despite her medical condition, she spent most of her final days advocating for death-with-dignity laws. Reports have stated that Brittany Maynard took lethal drugs, which were given to her by her physician, so she could die.

A spokesperson said that Maynard died "As she intended - peacefully in her bedroom, in the arms of her loved ones."

She mentioned just last month that she planned to die on November 1st, in her Portland residence. She bade goodbye to her loved ones on Saturday, feeling that she had succeeded in reviving interest and debate in a subject that had been out of the news of late.

However, she mentioned in a video that was released last week that she might postpone. She said, "It doesn't seem like the right time right now."

But, before taking the medications that would lead to her death, she wrote on her Facebook account, "Goodbye to all my dear friends and family that I love. Today is the day I have chosen to pass away with dignity in the face of my terminal illness. This terrible brain cancer has taken so much from me but would have taken so much more."

According to PEOPLE magazine, Brittany Maynard took a fatal dose of barbiturates.

Maynard then added, "The world is a beautiful place. Travel has been my greatest teacher. My close friends and folks are the greatest givers. I even have a ring of support around my bed as I type. Goodbye world. Spread good energy. Pay it forward!"
