Star Wars: Battlefront is a reboot rather than a sequel to "Battlefront II," Electronic Arts and game developer DICE removed "III" from its title according to Christian Today. Reportedly, EA announced that its "major first-person shooter" will hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms during the 2015 holiday season.
According to Eurogamer, Star Wars Battlefront is expected to be launched by summer of 2015 however it was moved by a few months as Electronic Arts announced its December release date via Twitter. The "major first-person shooter" will coincide with JJ Abrams' Star Wars: Episode 7 that premieres December of 2015.
Christian Today noted that the previously known third-person series will no longer operate that way as Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen, described it as EA's first "major first-person shooter" for 2015. It is speculated that it may be caused by DICE's "unparalleled knowledge with the first person theme."
As to the game plot itself, there is limited information that has been released yet. Speculations from Moviepilot stated that Deathtroopers might be included in the gameplay reboot. It seems legit based in the Battlefront game origin. These space creatures made its first appearance in "Star Wars Death Troopers" by Joe Schreiber in 2009. However, the website also shared that "Disney has announced that most of the extended universe has been excluded" in the gameplay, leaving the assumption vague.
Meanwhile, in addition to the Star Wars: Battlefront reboot, Eurogamer reported that EA CEO Andrew Wilson announced the next Battlefield game from DICE presumably called Battlefield 5 that will be released in the last quarter of 2016.
"Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch," he said. As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it's clear that players want to experience the games we're delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles."
