Marvel is really up for "Doctor Strange" movie. Producer Kevin Feige has announced it that it is included in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and even has revealed the release date, which is on November 4, 2016. But something, or should we say someone is missing: The actor to play Doctor Strange.
The 40-year-old actor Joaquin Phoenix had previously entered into negotiation with Marvel for portrayal of the lead role for "Doctor Strange" movie. During an interview with Playboy, Phoenix didn't talk directly about "Doctor Strange" but instead revealed his preferences in accepting roles, he said. "I can't talk about it [Doctor Strange]. I've met on all sorts of movies throughout the years. What seems appealing about some of them is the idea of pushing myself in a way that's out of my comfort zone. But really, it's what I'm always looking for-good characters, big ideas, and a passionate filmmaker. If those things line up with any kind of movie, I have interest in it."
After the "Her" actor Phoenix turned down the offer, Marvel had to open the lead role again. Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Keanu Reeves are just among the names that included in the choices. However, "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch seems the studio's favorite to play the role of Doctor Stephen Strange.
Despite report on various online site that Cumberbatch has already entered into final negotiation for the "Doctor Strange" movie, either Marvel or the actor's sides confirmed about it.
We could remember that Marvel's Kevin Feige said during the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 3 presentation if Cumberbatch is already the actor to play the Supreme Sorcerer hero, "If it was confirmed, we would have announced it today."
He replied when asked about the "Doctor Strange" movie, "The idea of this film is to open up a whole new corner of the cinematic universe. We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions."
Recently in Hollywood Film Awards, Cumberbatch claimed during an interview that "I don't know about that," pertaining to playing a superhero for "Doctor Strange".
