Robert Downey Jr. has finally revealed the status of "Iron Man 4" during an interview with David Letterman. He said that he won't be returning in the sequel and instead do other stuff with Marvel. We all know that he will be returning for "Avengers 3" which will be a two-part film. "Avengers: Infinity War Part 1" will be shown in 2018 while "Avengers: Infinity War Part 2" will be released in 2019.
Since the 49-year old actor just finished filming "The Avengers: Age of Ultron", his next project will be "Captain America: Civil War" which will hit the theaters on 2016. There really is no more room for him doing another sequel for "Iron Man".
During an interview with Collider, fans had hopes when Kevin Feige talked about the possibility of "Iron Man 4". Marvel president said, "Of course anything's a possibility. Who the heck knows? We have a lot of work to go to finish Avengers 2. We have a lot of work for whatever Avengers 3 is, that's all folks need to know. Who knows what happens after that."
Since Marvel has already revealed their lineup of movies for the coming years, the chances of having another "Iron Man" movie becomes slimmer. In a separate interview with Movie Web, Feige revealed the fate of the film franchise. He said, "If there are more years after 2019, then there will be more possibilities. I hope there are more years."
Based on his statement, fans should not expect any "Iron Man" movie for a couple of years. And if ever they will decide on doing another sequel, it could turn out to be a reboot just like James Bond, who was played by different actors.
Kevin Feige told Badass Digest, "I think Bond is a good example. Let's put it this way: I hope Downey makes a lot of movies for us as Stark. If and when he doesn't, and I'm still here making these movies, we don't take him to Afghanistan and have him wounded again. I think we James Bond it."
Who do you think could best replace Robert Downey Jr. in "Iron Man 4"?
