A trip to Disney World turned into a tragedy for a family of eight after their SUV veered off a highway and rolled over in Louisiana, killing Michael and Trudi Hardman and three of their kids, according to the Associated Press.
Police reportedly believe that the couple's 16-year-old son fell asleep behind the wheel of the SUV on their trip to Disney World.
The driver, who was not identified, was reportedly cited with careless operation, which is a misdemeanor, following the 11pm crash on Interstate 20 near Calhoun, Louisiana State Police spokesman Michael Reichardt stated.
Michael Hardman's brother, Timothy Hardman, reportedly stated that the driver and two passengers were injured, one critically. The family reportedly left their home for their trip to Disney World about 7pm or 8pm on Wednesday, according to Timonthy Hardman.
"They've always talked about it," stated Timonthy Hardman, according to the U.K's The Telegraph.
He continued, "It was their dream trip. It was an opportunity for them to take all of their kids."
Michael Hardman was a second-grate teacher at an elementary school, according to Terell Independent School District Superintendent Michael French. Trudi Hardman was reportedly a kindergarten teacher at Wills Point Primary school and had worked for the Wills Point Independent School District for about 10 years, Superintendent Suzanne Blasingame said in an email.
"Our school and community is grieving for this family," stated Blasingame, who had traveled to Louisiana to be with the family.
