Phillip Hughes Injury: Dead After Sustaining Head Injury Due To Being Hit By A Ball; Cricket World Mourns Of His Demise

The Cricket world is mourning right now after news of Phillip Hughes injury and death hit the newsstands. Hughes was struck by a bouncer on Tuesday game after mis-timing a shot to a short-pitch delivery while batting for South Australia against New South Wales in a Sheffield Shield match.

Hughes collapsed in the field where he was immediate brought to the hospital and underwent emergency surgery at nearby St. Vincent's Hospital. His condition remained critical right after the surgery and was in an induced coma until he died.

According to team doctor Peter Brukner "It is my sad duty to inform you that a short time ago Phillip Hughes passed away."

He adds "He never regained consciousness following his injury on Tuesday. He was not in pain before he passed and was surrounded by his family and close friends."

He continued "As a cricket community we mourn his loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Phillip's family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Cricket Australia kindly asks that the privacy of the Hughes family, players and staff be respected."

The South Australian Cricket Association chief executive Keith Bradshaw sent out a statement regarding Phillip Hughes Injury and death.

He wrote "In behalf of the South Australian Cricket Association I want to say our thoughts and our prayers are with the family of Phillip Hughes today. Everyone at SACA is hurting, but our immediate thoughts are with Phillip's family, who are with him at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney."

"This is a devastating day for all of us who knew Phillip. The entire cricketing community is in shock and struggling to come to terms with the death of such a popular and talented player."

"Loved by everyone, Phillip was a quality guy and a remarkable talent. He had many friends and teammates . . . here, interstate and overseas, and it important we offer them all the support and space we need to help deal with this tragic event."

Ending "He will be sorely missed by his cricketing family here in South Australia and all around the world."
