Lee Ji Ah, a South Korean actress with notable works such as The Penthouse and Thousand Day Promise, took to social media to clarify the ongoing controversy surrounding her family background and history.

She also said that she cut her parents out of her life more than 10 years ago because of family complications.
Lee's post which circulated on online community forum theqoo, which she made on Feb. 21, was in response to accusations regarding her grandfather's collaboration with pro-Japanese factions during the period of Korea's colonization.
She opened her statement by recognizing the issue is "complicated" and apologizing for not responding sooner.
"Hello, this is Lee Ji Ah. I have taken time to consider my next steps because I have approached this situation with caution," she said in the statement. "But I have come to the decision that, at this late hour, the right thing to do is take accountability and correct the facts. Still, as hard as it is, I muster the nerve to speak out."
Her comments came as she sought to clarify her position on the various issues reported in recent days.
Lee, who became independent when she was 18, claimed she did not take any money from her parents and was unaware of the recent property and land ownership disputes in the family.

Regarding the controversy over her grandfather, Lee said she learned about his past activities in 2011.
"I have no memories of my grandfather because he died when I was only two, and I was brought up not knowing about his pro-Japanese activities," she said.
She also expressed her belief that any land purchased during the period of Japanese occupation should be returned to the state, provided that it has been shown to be among the disputed land.
Lee also took the chance to deny misinformation running on social media that alleges she said she "respected" her grandfather.
"Indeed, I did not say 'that I respect my grandfather,' but there was misinformation on communities and comments." She said that this is untrue, and she wishes to correct it.
Lee ended her statement by saying that her grandfather's "actions throughout history have not been admirable" and that she would "take a humble approach to history."
"Lastly, as a grand daughter, I fully acknowledge the mistakes his generation has made throughout history and apologize profusely on behalf of him and everyone in his generation. And I will continue to face the historical truth modestly and continue to live responsibly," she added.
What makes this particularly touching is that this is the first time Lee Ji Ah is publicly addressing a personal and sensitive family matter during her acting career.
