The major difference in the before and after world of selfies is that there's been an increase in plastic surgery since people started to incessantly post self-taken photos of themselves on social media.
Plastic surgeons in the United States have reportedly been seeing a demand for procedures ranging from eye-lid lifts to nose jobs, according to Reuters.
The before and after changes following the entrance of selfies in our lives was shown through a poll conducted by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as 2,700 of its members reportedly showed that one in three had seen an increase in requests for procedures due to patients being more aware of their image in social media.
"There has been a 25 percent increase over the past year and a half to two years. That is very significant," stated Dr. Sam Rizk, a plastic surgeon.
The 47-year-old surgeon added, "They come in with their iPhones and show me pictures. Selfies are just getting to be so crazy."
Despite the surge in the demand for plastic surgery, Rizk, who specialized in rhinoplasty, stated that not everyone who requests a procedure needs it because a selfie produces a distorted image that doesn't represent how a person really looks, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
"We all will have something wrong with us on a selfie image," Rizk explained.
He continued, "I refuse a significant portion of patients with selfies because I believe it is not a real image of what they actually look like in person."
New York make-up artist Ramy Gafni reportedly stated that using clean makeup, well-defined eyebrows and a color on the lips produces the best selfies.
"You want to enhance your features, perfect your features but not necessarily change your features into something they are not," stated Gafni.
