Popular Baby Names Of 2014 Inspired By ‘Frozen,’ ‘House Of Cards’ And ‘Orange Is The New Black’

The list of popular baby names for 2014 have been released with Sophie topping the list once again for girls and Jackson taking the number one slot for boys, according to NBC New York.

The trend in popular baby names for 2014 have taken a bit of a turn as BabyCenter reportedly found in their survey that nearly 20 percent of moms said TV-show characters inspired their choices.

The Emmy-winning Netflix show "House Of Cards" was reportedly responsible for boosting the names Frank, Garrett and Remy for boys while it inspired parents to go with Claire and Zoe for their girls, according to the U.K's The Daily Mail.

The character names on "Orange Is The New Black" has also reportedly seen a rise in popularity as Galina is up 67 percent, Nicky is up 35 percent, Piper is up 28 percent and Dayanara is up 19 percent from 2013.

"This is the year of binge-watching baby names," stated BabyCenter's global editor in chief, Linda Murray.

She added, "When you spend 16 hours in one weekend binge-watching your favorite series, you can't help but fall in love with the characters' names."

"House of Cards" and "Orange Is The New Black" aren't the only two shows that have inspired the popular baby names of 2014. ABC's "Nashville" has reportedly contributed to a surge for a collection of names, including Luke, Avery, Deacon, Daphne and Gunnar.

Jackson, which was the most popular boy name of 2014, is the name of "Grey's Anatomy" character Dr. Jackson Avery as well.

Aside from television shows, movies, such as "Frozen" have taken part in the baby name trend as well, as the name Else has been pushed up by 29 percent since 2013 while the actress who lent her voice to the animated character, Idina Menzel, may reportedly be the cause for the name Idina to make its way onto the 2014 list for the first time.
