'Masters Of Sex' season 3, according to series creator Michelle Ashford, will finally delve into Dr. Bill Masters and Virginia Johnson's therapeutic work.
The first season set up the show's premise while the second season factored in the drama and sexual tension between the two main characters. The next offering will reportedly push Bill and Virginia towards putting their experiment into actually use.
"Their work has now shifted from data collecting to actually helping people who are suffering," Ashford shared to TVLine in an interview.
About the last scene in season 2, she teased that "it's the very beginning of what [becomes] intensely therapeutic work for them. This is what they ended up spending most of their time doing - trying to heal couples."
Last season, fans last saw Virginia getting fired from her day job and Bill finally setting up his own clinic. With this development, fans are speculating that they will finally get a chance to explore a possible relationship this time. With a new goal (to help other couples), however, will they be able to do that?
Other fan theories for "Masters Of Sex" season 3 include Libby finally deciding to let go of her prim and proper personality. Will she cheat on Bill with her CORE co-worker Robert?
According to Ashford, Robert is "looking at her in a way that her husband does not. He is actually evaluating her, judging her - not kindly sometimes. And he's not afraid of her sexually."
Regarding whether or not their relationship will evolve into something more romantic, Ashford admitted that it's "something I'm really thinking about right now."
She added, "I don't know the form that that's going to take."
However, she does agree that both characters together are "really compelling."
"Masters Of Sex" season 3 is speculated to air sometime in mid-2015.
