Although past spoilers suggested a possible relationship forming between Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) in "Penny Dreadful" season 2, the "rare" connection she has with Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney) still doesn't seem to be an already closed chapter.
Enstars speculates that the romantic aspect of Vanessa and Dorian's story could still be brought up in the next season. This is due to the abundance of Vanessa-Dorian clips that Showtime included in the latest promotional video for the Victorian-era horror series featuring the "formidable beauty."

Past updates suggest, however, that the sexually-charged couple will be meeting other love interests next year.
Showtime recently released a new photo of Ethan holding a troubled-looking Vanessa in his arms. Both characters have their own pasts haunting them as well as demons within themselves to fight with.
"'This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges, and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace. Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together.' - John Logan, Creator," said the photo's caption on the show's official Facebook page.
According to Eva Green's previous "Penny Dreadful" season 2 spoiler for E! News, the two characters are "going to get closer."
Green further teased, "It's a very beautiful relationship."
Reeve Carney also revealed that Dorian will be meeting a new love interest next season. Will this still unnamed person help him get over his first ever heartbreak? Or will he still go back to the only woman who rejected him?
Perhaps the most intriguing question, however, is whether he will eventually discover the exact reason of Vanessa's choice to turn him away. What will he do if or when he does?
Will a love triangle ensue among Vanessa, Dorian and Ethan? Dorian and Ethan shared an intimate moment in season one as well.
Although no exact date has been announced yet, "Penny Dreadful" season 2 will reportedly start airing next year.
