Mariah Carey's leaked shaky audio performance allegedly proved that the bad showmanship at Rockefeller Center's Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony was not her fault. And even if it was indeed her own voice, she shouldn't be faulted for that little mishap.
According to a report from Eurweb, a number of people at the NBC broadcast were so angry at Mariah Carey for showing up three hours late and missing the taping that they allegedly sabotaged her performance.
Her performance was supposed to air on Wednesday and because she showed up really late, the NBC had to tape her live performance of "All I Want for Christmas."
By Thursday morning, an audio splicing just Mariah Carey's strained voice was leaked on the Internet.
"It's really hard to leak just audio. Mariah is blaming producers for leaking her audio track. She believes they did it to punish her for not showing up to taping the day before the live event," a source told Confidenti@l.
"Carey's reps denies any network involvement in the leaked audio and tells us that because Mariah used a wireless mic, anyone in attendance could have recorded the isolated track," the website added.
However, Alex Kritselis of Bustle wrote that pop stars should be looked at beyond just their singing chops, and instead see their overall package.
"I really do think that some people just need to accept the fact that these performers are human beings. They have 'off' days, too - that doesn't mean that they 'can't sing,'" he wrote.
He pointed out that Mariah Carey's leaked isolated vocal track featuring her strained voice wasn't the first time this happened to a female artist: "Taylor Swift's isolated vocals from her performance of 'Shake It Off' at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards were widely ridiculed in August, and other major artists - like Katy Perry, Britney Spears, and Rihanna - have experienced the same harsh criticism."
