The originals season 2 updates

It's the Christmas season but the festive cheer doesn't last very long in the Mikealson family. Find out what happened in "Map Of Moments" in this "The Originals" season 2 recap!

Klaus doesn't exactly feel entirely festive as he, Rebekah, Elijah, Hayley and baby Hope get together to continue the family tradition of burning their wishes in a bonfire. Having his daughter in his arms, however, allows the viewers to see a more charming side to the vindictive hybrid.

This little happy bubble gets cut short though, with Esther's threat still lurking in the background. Wanting to have family peace, once and for all, Rebekah decides to take Esther's deal as a decoy for her brothers to finally end her wickedness.

They need Khol's help but the youngest Mikaelson asks for something in return - the paragon diamond, which will help him create a dagger for Klaus.

Hayley tells Elijah about her impending marriage and to her surprise, he tells her to marry Jackson - right after he kisses her. Needless to say, they finally consummate the sexual tension that had been building up between them for the longest time. Will this be the end to their love story?

Meanwhile, at the Quarter, Davina and Khol work on a spell to stop Rebekah's soul from jumping into Cammie's body.

"The Originals" season 2 recap proceeds with Rebekah offering herself to her mother. Khol links Esther's hourglass to another one of Davina's. She will be countering the spell to stop Rebekah's soul from jumping into Cammie's body.

Everything goes downhill, however, when Esther produces the white oak stake to destroy Rebekah's body after she jumps into a new one. Luckily Klaus intervenes, only to find out that the spell had already started the moment Esther turned the hourglass over.

Prior to doing the spell, Esther sought out Mikael's help, allowing him to kill Klaus for her to save her other children. The patriarch rescues Finn from his coffin confinement.

Knowing this, Klaus stabs Esther's neck but it was too late. Rebekah's soul had already jumped into another body - a witch that Klaus had locked up in a house back in 1914.

The biggest - and most satisfying - part of the episode, however, is the moment Esther wakes up as a transitioning vampire.

Rebekah had dropped her blood into her mother's wine before starting the spell. With Klaus killing her with vampire blood in her system, she finally ends up becoming the monster she both created and loathed.

Klaus does offer her a choice though, drink the blood he gave her or let herself die. It would still be torture either way.

The brothers put Rebekah's body in a coffin, effectively saluting Claire Holt's leave of the show as well as leaving the door open should she return in the future. Rebekah's soul, on the other hand, gets diverted to a young witch's body.

What did you think of Esther's ultimate downfall in this "The Original" season 2 recap? Do you think we'll see Rebekah in her original body again?
