The new Samsung Galaxy S6 is said to have a March 2015 release date, but why should you still consider looking at iPhone 5s specs vs. Samsung Galaxy S5 specs comparisons?

It's undeniable that Apple and Samsung produce outstanding technology fit for this generation. The iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S5 still remain to be a notable bet despite the launch of the iPhone 6 and the new Galaxy's unveiling next year.

Should you wait for the S6, and choose between that and the iPhone 6?

When it comes to iPhone 6 vs. Samsung Galaxy S6, the newest Samsung release will reportedly sport the following specs according to SamMobile, as published on Times of India:

"Although the screen size was not mentioned among the rumored specs, the device is expected to feature a Quad HD (2560x1440p) display, just as Note 4. Another similarity between the two devices will be the camera sensor, IMX240, which could be either a 16MP or 20MP lens. The front camera will be upgraded to 5MP in alignment with the recently launched Galaxy A series."

The iPhone 6 which is available in 2 sizes, the 4.7inch and the bigger 5.5inch iPhone 6 Plus, runs on Apple A8, and has a 1GB RAM. The new phones come in a curved aluminum, measuring 6.8mm thick and 7.1mm thick respectively.

Do you think their predecesors are still good choices? Take a look at this short iPhone 5S specs vs. Samsung Galaxy S5 specs comparison:

Resolution

The Galaxy S5 boasts of a 1,920x1080 Full HD resolution, with a 432ppi pixel density, making it compatible to play Full HD videos and browse through desktop versions of websites without having to adjust the size of the fonts.

The iPhone 5s on the other hand has a 1,136x640 resolution, making it incapable of playing Full HD videos. But its 377ppi pixel density that makes it impossible for users to notice individual pixels.

Look

Expert Reviews said, "Apple has always been top when it comes to smartphone design and the iPhone 5s is no different. The iPhone 5s is made from anodised aluminium with diamond cut chamfered edges. It is available in gold, silver and grey. Its full-metal body feels fantastic and it's one of the best-made phones that we've ever seen. It's tough, too; even after almost a year of carrying ours around, our iPhone 5S still looks pristine."

"The Galaxy S5 has dimpled soft-touch plastic on the back, which gives it more grip. The plain black finish on the front looks stylish, too, although the silver metal effect trim around the edges remains. Unfortunately the handset is still made from plastic, rather than metal, but is available in more colours: black, white, gold and blue. To be fair to Samsung, it's done a good job of the plastic case and the handset feels well-made and doesn't have the creakiness of cheaper plastic products."

Camera

"The iPhone 5s has a 8-megapixel, back side illuminated (BSI) rear camera sensor, which is paired with a dual LED flash," Expert Reviews noted.

"The Galaxy S5 has a 1/2.6in sensor with 1.241µm pixels. Despite having a larger 16-megapixel sensor, cramming more pixels into a smaller surface area won't necessarily increase picture quality over the iPhone."

Battery

The iPhone 5S with its M7 motion processor and 1,560mAh battery gives the smartphone an excellent battery life. With its brightness set to just 50% and with other connectivity options (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS) turned off, the 5S battery can last up to 14 hours.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy S5 has a larger 2,800mAh battery, but since it has a larger screen and faster processor, shorter battery life is expected. However, the smartphone can last for 17 hours if the user intends to use it for purely watching videos.
