"The Last: Naruto The Movie" is set to hit US theaters following its successful run in Japan. According to Anime News Network, Viz Media already announced its collaboration with film distributor Eleven Arts to release the English-subtitled ninja film in movie houses in the North America.
Reportedly, the run will begin on February 20, 2015 and it will "initially screen in 20 major U.S. cities including New York, Boston, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, and more."
In a previous report Anime News Network noted the film has earned 1.47 billion yen which is approximately US$12.1 million as of 3:00 p.m. on its first day. The recent Naruto film beats the July 2012 motion picture "Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie" by 175%.
Prior to the Japanese premiere, Madman posted an English-subtitled trailer in YouTube. Reportedly, it is to promote the movie to be shown in Australia and New Zealand early next year. The movie trailer was captioned: "15 years since it all began. The conclusion to Naruto is almost here. THE LAST: NARUTO THE MOVIE. Coming to cinemas in Australia & New Zealand - January 17, 2015. Tickets on sale soon!"
According to Latin Times, "The Last: Naruto the Movie" introduces Toneri Otsutsuki. Toneri from the Otsutsuki lineage. Shonen Jump reveal a little more about this new character in a plot summary for the upcoming movie:
"The moon has begun moving closer to Earth! As it is, the moon will crumble and meteorites will rain down on Earth's surface," wrote Shonen Jump. "As the last days of Earth approach, Hanabi Hyūga is abducted by a mysterious man in Konoha, and Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Shikamaru, and Hinata set off on a rescue mission!"
Latin Times noted that Toneri Otsutsuki has a crescent moon on his back indicating that he has a unique ability to control the moon. He is a direct descendant to the sage of Six Paths who will threaten the humanity with his lunar powers.
