What should we look forward to for tonight's finale episode of the suspenseful series' fourth season? Warning: spoilers ahead!
The Star chooses the "Homeland" finale as one of its top picks for Sunday night TV viewing, explaining "It's finale time for this counter-terrorism drama, which found its mojo again this season. After last week's thwarted assassination attempt on Haqqani and the surprise return of an old colleague of Quinn's (Rupert Friend), we can expect to see Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) return home safety and try to untangle what happened in Islamabad. But what of Quinn and his mission to destroy Haqqani?"
New York Daily News adds, "'HOMELAND' has picked up the pace as it heads into the Season 4 finale Sunday (9 p.m.). It's also coming off maybe the most jarring death in the show's history, the terrorist murder of Fara (Nazanin Boniadi). Fara wasn't as major a character as Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), who died at the end of Season 3. But unlike his death, hers was not foreshadowed or, arguably, deserved. So it left many fans more shaken, even though the shadow of death always hovers over the "Homeland" world. Fara's death was also frustrating because it never felt like her character was developed to its potential. After Brody's death, she and Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) seemed like the logical candidates to help fill the void left by Brody and his family. Quinn did that. He and his ambivalence have been central all year as Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) has tried to position her team to thwart terrorist Haissam Haqqani in Islamabad. This involved a major reset for the show, after three seasons in which Carrie's relationship with Brody increasingly drove the story. So this season started slowly, putting new pieces in place. Lately it has accelerated, while clearly moving closer to the blueprint creator Alex Gansa originally envisioned, with a new adventure each season. More like "24," of which Gansa is an alumnus. After being showered with praise and awards its first season, "Homeland" was taking some flak by Season 3. Now some of the praise has returned, though Gansa acknowledges all seasons will inevitably be compared to the first. The show has already been renewed for a fifth season. How it wraps Sunday, especially now that no one except Carrie seems safe, should help indicate how well it has repositioned itself outside its own shadow."
Care for some more finale spoilers?
According to the International Business Times, "While viewers will know Carrie saw quite a bit of action go down during her time overseas, it's safe to assume the synopsis is speaking about her most recent revelation: that CIA agent and traitor Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham) was seen in a vehicle with Taliban terrorist Haissam Haqqani (Numan Acar) at the end of episode 11. "Don't look so shocked. We have to see events for what they're. It's not what I've done. It's what I've got in return," Dar says in a voice-over in the episode 12 promo. "Not every choice we make is blessed with moral clarity. One adapts to the terrain. We are the no man of no man's land"...A sneak peek for episode 12 also reveals that after a season of sitting out of the CIA and being a prisoner to Haqqani, Saul wants to head back to work. In the video, the former director of the CIA tells his wife, Mira Berenson (Sarita Choudhury), that he doesn't want to retire despite being delivered a severance package..."I know what I want to do next, goddammit, I want back in," Saul says. "I want to make this right." As for Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), his role in the season finale remains unclear. In the promo, Carrie can be seen trying to reach out to him, but her text to him goes undelivered. In a separate shot, he is seen boarding a plane and loading several weapons. Will he go rogue again? Or is he simply following the CIA's orders in another assingment? Despite the season finale drama, Carrie will also spend time mourning the loss of her father (James Rebhorn)-could that be the "elaborate" finale funeral scene?- and assimilating to life back in the U.S. In one photo from episode 12, she can be seen teary-eyed and sitting on a bench. In a second shot, she is smiling and drinking with CIA director Andrew Lockhart (Tracy Letts)."
