Jackie Chan's son, Jaycee Chan, has reportedly gone through a radical change during his ongoing time in prison. According to a report from Malaysia Chronicle, the action star's son also recently celebrated his 32nd birthday in jail, and that his family was not allowed to visit him.
Daily Mail reported earlier this year about how Jaycee Chan was arrested at his Beijing home for possession of more than 3.5 ounces of marijuana.
Since his arrest, Malaysia Chronicle reported that the aspiring actor and singer has undergone a significant change in prison. His manager attested that he has become an avid fan of literature, having borrowed more than 100 books while in jail.
Jackie Chan's son's newfound interest in reading has reportedly inspired him to write songs and stories to make the most out of his prison stay.
However, not everyone is convinced that the former drug user has changed. Online bashers have scoffed at Jackie Chan's son's reading hobby, commenting "How did he do it? What kind of books are they?"
An online critic also pointed out: "The manager only said Jaycee borrowed 100 books, but did not specify that he actually read every one of those books."
The report also narrated that Jackie Chan's son Jaycee Chan recently spent his 32nd birthday at the Beijing detention facility.
Unfortunately for him, Chinese law orders that he first needs to go through trial and be sentenced before having visitors. As a result, Jackie Chan was reportedly not allowed to see his son on his birthday.
The wife of Jackie Chan, Joan Lin, was reportedly very upset over the whole ordeal. Malaysia Chronicle said the distraught mother has "not left the house, and has been crying all day".
After Jackie Chan's son was arrested for marijuana possession a few months ago, the martial arts expert released his official statement through his official website, and the letter was published by TMZ.
"When I first heard the news, I was absolutely enraged," Jackie Chan said.
"As a public figure, I feel very ashamed; as his dad, I'm very sad and disappointed," the "Rush Hour" star admitted.
Jackie Chan added that "the person who feels heartbroken the most is (Jaycee's) mom."
The action star says his son's arrest should serve as a lesson to the youth. "I hope our younger generation will learn from Jaycee's mistake and stay far away from drug abuse," said Jackie Chan.
