In the music video premiere for brand new single "Sugar," Maroon 5 travels across L.A. giving surprise performances at unknowing couples' weddings! The music video, which channels Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's "Wedding Crashers," is a fun and lighthearted number that's sure to boost the single's chart performance and radio play.
"It's December 6, 2014. We're going to drive across L.A. and hit every wedding we possibly can," explains Adam Levine at the start of the video.
"It's going to be awesome. And we're late," he says before jumping in a black convertible along with his suited-up band.
And awesome it was! "At each venue, the film crew rushes in and sets up a massive white backdrop, as guests stare with puzzled curiosity. Once the band - in mid-performance - is revealed, the couples' reactions range from deer-in-headlights shock to hyperventilating glee," reported Rolling Stone.
The similarities between the music video for "Sugar" and the film "Wedding Crashers" goes beyond simple admiration, the clip is in fact directed by the same director as the 2005 movie!
In an interview with VH1, director David Dobkin explained "The idea came up of, what if they went to real weddings and showed up as the surprise wedding band? He loved that idea. And look, for 10 years everyone asks me to do something related to that movie. (laughter) I've never wanted to go back there, just because it's something that worked so well. But we locked in on this idea and thought it would be great. And then it was like, holy shit, how do we pull this off?"
As we can see from the finished product, the team definitely managed!
"This is the most fun I have ever had on anything, ever, as a filmmaker. Part of it was working with Adam and part of it was because it was a ballsy concept and it paid off," said director David Dobkin.
"It was an out of body experience. I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all," added Adam Levine in a press release.
"Sugar" is the third single from 2014's "V," which also produced hit songs "Animals" and "Maps." The music video has already racked up nearly one million views in its first day on YouTube. Do you think this is Maroon 5's best music video yet? Sound off in the comments section below!
