Decades old rape allegations against America's favorite dad have been ignored, but are now resurfacing after nearly 20 women have come forward to speak about Bill Cosby's sexual misconduct towards them.
The so-called Bill Cosby sex scandal is now a conundrum since legal proceedings for sexual assault charges raised by at least 13 women are applicable for a limited time frame, with some charges going back as far back as 1969.
Reports are now putting the spotlight on Mark Whitaker, Cosby's biography writer. Whitaker has allegedly omitted parts about the actor's sexual assaults.
"Mark Whitaker had a responsibility in telling the life story of Bill Cosby to include thoroughly reported and longstanding allegations against the entertainer," Steve Weinberg, Professor Emeritus at the University of Missouri School of Journalism told Time.com.
"Mark Whitaker wants you to purchase his biography of Bill Cosby. As a biographer myself, I want you to purchase biographies galore, including those I write. But despite my book buying habit, I will refrain from owning Cosby: His Life and Times."
At least a dozen women have come out with similar stories about being drugged and raped or sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby.
Phylicia Rishad, Cosby's former co-star who played Mrs. Huxtable on The Cosby Show, said the alleged accusations of rape and sexual assault were deliberate attempts to tarnish and extinguish the "Bill Cosby legacy."
Most of Cosby's co-actors on The Cosby Show said that the allegations against the actor are unlike his character on TV, describing him as generous and kind. But they also said they were not there in the room with Cosby when these alleged acts purportedly took place.
Meanwhile, Jay Leno weighed on the Bill Cosby conundrum and asked, "Why is it so hard to believe women?"
What would be the motive behind these women's testimonies of victimization? It still remains a mystery that the media is still coming to terms with and has yet to resolve.
