Bryan Cranston in "Star Trek 3," in a villain role? New updates for the next film in the Star Trek reboot, with the "Breaking Bad" actor's casting to be confirmed.
More news from the rumor mill; the next installment in the reboot for the Star Trek franchise will have a handful of new characters introduced, and unlike "Into Darkness," a substantial female presence as well. The biggest rumor so far is Bryan Cranston in "Star Trek 3," allegedly pegged for a nasty villain role.
Cranston proved his potential to carry an antagonistic role in his successful stint with AMC's "Breaking Bad," as Walter White a.k.a. Heisenberg. The TV series earned the favor of audiences and critics during its run, with a pivotal character set to branch out with his own spinoff ("Better Call Saul").
A Film Divider report claims at least three new characters is confirmed in the third Star Trek movie: the captain of a Federation ship, the President of the United Federation of Planets, and Bones' ex-wife.
Trekkies can speculate on which one of Bones' ex-wives will make an appearance, either Jocelyn Treadway or Pamela Branch; it could also be an entirely different character.
There's little detail on Bryan Cranston's role in "Star Trek 3," or if his casting will be confirmed. Screen Rant reports Cranston did comment on news he's pegged for a villain role in the movie, though it's all rumor for now.
The three new characters rumored to join the cast will bolster female presence in "Star Trek 3," considering the bad rap "Into Darkness" received from fans and critics. Both were disappointed at the scene where Carol Marcus stripped to her undies, in a shot designed for audiences to gawk at.
The "Star Trek 3" release date is on July 8, 2016, and if Bryan Cranston is confirmed, the movie will hopefully fare better than "Godzilla" in terms of character development and screen time (screenrant.com).
