The 2007 murder case of Meredith Kercher is reportedly set for its final trial in March as suspects Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are to face the Italian courts for the third time, according to the website Breathecast.com.
Although the pair were reportedly found guilty over the death after the second retrial, Knox and Sollecito have continued to maintain that they are innocent.
“I still cannot believe I might go to prison for something I did not do,” stated Sollecito during an interview on Italian TV State Rai 1, according to the U.K.’s The Daily Mail.
He added, “I have suffered threats and pressure by investigators. They locked me in a room for 15 hours and questioned me for a long time, threatening that I would not be allowed out of prison.”
Roffaele Sollecito also reportedly stated that he believes “100 percent” that Knox did not kill the British student.
Since being found guilty of murder in November 2009, Knox has also maintained that she is innocent.
“I did not kill my friend. I did not wield a knife. I had no reason to,” explained Knox.
She continued, “In the month that we were living together, we were becoming friends. A week before the murder occurred, we went out to a classical music concert together. We had never fought.”
Ruling Judge Alessandro Nencini reportedly stated that Kercher and Knox had disagreed over the payment of the rent in the house they shared, but Knox has denied the allegations, according to CNN.
“If I were there, I would have traces of Meredith’s broken body on me. And I would have left traces of myself around — around Meredith’s corpse,” explained Knox.
She continued, “And I— I am not there. And that proves my innocence.”
30-year-old Sollecito reportedly remains in Italy and has been ordered to remain there after being found near the Italian border with Slovenia and Austria hours after being found guilty for the second time. 27-year-old Knox reportedly lives in West Seattle as a freelance reporter and has completed a degree in creative writing.
