"The Lego Movie 2" gets a boost, with the first movie earning best animated feature at the recent BAFTA event.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller were vocal about the Academy Awards for snubbing their feature film "The Lego Movie," a snub which received the backlash of fans, given the movie's critical acclaim and box office success. The recently concluded BAFTA should give "The Lego Movie 2" an early PR boost, though.

Lord and Miller took the Academy Awards snub in stride, with retribution already gained in critical acclaim, not to mention strong revenues even a year after "The Lego Movie" launched.

The movie ranks fifth in the US in 2014's list of domestic gross, 16th internationally. Since the movie released on home video, it has earned as much as $111 million. Lord and Miller's biggest payback to date was in their acceptance speech at the recent BAFTA, though.

"You are our favorite Academy by far, and this is clearly the most fun I've had in an opera house by far, also," Lord said, as reported by Digital Spy. "You guys win the award for Best Academy. This is the end of the awards road for us, so we can say whatever we want. There's no-one left to impress."

"The Lego Movie" beat favorites "Big Hero 6" and "The Boxtrolls" for Best Animated Film; on the other hand, Lord and Miller's brainchild didn't even make it to the Academy Awards' short list of nominees.

Phil Lord commented on the Oscar snub in light humor, true to form: in a tweet, Lord said "It's okay. Made my own!" posting his version of an Oscar award assembled with yellow Lego pieces.

The creators are reportedly busy developing "The Lego Movie 2," also a Batman spinoff to the first movie, starring Will Arnett. A "Ninjago" spinoff is also in the works, with release dates to be announced (cinemablend.com).
