It’s safe to say that Kanye West is more obsessed with Beyonce winning awards than taking a Grammy home himself.
The “Yeezus” rapper may have briefly ended his feud with Taylor Swift after interrupting her acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs several years ago, but he may have started a new one by attempting to disrupt Beck’s speech after the indie singer took home the Grammy for Album of the Year.
“Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyonce,” West stated in an interview with E! after the ceremony, according to The Guardian.
He continued, “At this point we tired of it because what happens is when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in the face after they deliver monumental feats in music, you’re disrespectful to inspiration.”
Kanye West went on to explain that the only reason he didn’t go on and fully destroy Beck’s acceptance speech, as he did with Taylor Swift, is his daughter, North West.
“We aren’t playing with them anymore. And by the way, I got my wife, my daughter, and I got my clothing line, so I’m not going to do nothing that would put my daughter at risk, but I am here to fight for creativity. That’s the reason why I didn’t say anything tonight, but you all knew what it meant when ‘Ye stepped on that stage,” explained West.
Taylor Swift had continuously joked about her feud with Kanye West, using Kanye West’s interruption line on a jar of jam she made for Ed Sheeran.
“Yo Ed- I’m really happy 4 you and I’m gonna let u finish but this is the best JAM OF ALL TIME -T.” wrote the “1989” hitmaker, according to E! News.
After her two VMA nominations in 2013, Swift had tweeted, “Two VMA nominations!! If you vote and get us one, I promise to keep a firmer grip on the mic this time.”
