Rumors of a “Friends” reunion has been circulating for quite some time now, but fans of the show will be disappointed to know that the long-awaited event is not a possibility.
There had reportedly previously been claims that NBC would be reviving the popular sitcom for a release in 2016, but the reports are false, according to the website mediamass.net.
Our favorite “Friends” cast members have stated that keeping a reunion from happening is in the best interest of the fans.
“I don’t want to see old Rachel Green,” Jennifer Aniston reportedly told a journalist.
She added, “Everyone’s going to have a different vision of what the character is like, so to have that materialize is going to disappoint most people. I’d rather people go, ‘Oh, please! Please!’ than ‘I can’t believe you did that. It was horrible.’”
Aniston’s “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry seems to be on the same page when it comes to sparing the fans from possible future disappointment.
“It would be terrible to do something and have it not be good,” explained Perry.
He continued, “It was so terrific. If we did a Friends movie and it sucked, then it would, you know, blemish it.”
Aside from rumors of a reunion, there had been speculation that a “Friends” movie may be in the works as well, but that’s also reportedly false.
“I think it’s a bit of a case of ‘the book is better than the movie,’” stated Jon Favreau, who had played a role as Monica Geller’s boyfriend in season 3 of the show.
Matt LeBlanc, who played the role of Joey, recently stated that having a reunion would defeat the world of “Friends.”
“The show was about this finite period of time in your life when it’s after college, but before your life really starts, where your friends, no pun intended, are your family, and you lean on one another, and help one another, and support one another, and care for one another, and do things a family does for one another and that’s what is was about,” LeBlanc told Us Weekly, according to MovieNewsGuide.
