Latest news and rumors surrounding the "Star Wars Episode 7" suggested that Billy Dee Williams might make an appearance as Lando Calrissian, after all, sometime in the trilogy.
In an interview with Cinelinx https://www.cinelinx.com/interviews/item/7110-billy-dee-williams-talks-star-wars-rebels-sequels-more-exclusive.html, Billy Dee Williams, now 77 years old, discussed his role in the animated film "Star Wars Rebels."
But when he was asked if he might show up in the new "Star Wars" trilogy from JJ Abrams, he was very encouraging as he noted how people were upset that he wasn't included in the promo photos involving Harrison Ford, Mark Hammill and Carrie Fisher.
"Yeah, people were pretty upset about it. But I uh...I may very well...I have a feeling I'm going to show up," he said. There's nothing I can really discuss about it at this stage."
He noted that he wasn't really part of the original cast in the George Lucas' epic trilogy, either.
"I didn't come in until the second movie," he said "I did Empire and then I did 'Return of the Jedi,' but I came in after everyone else was introduced...So I think they're probably proceeding in that way."
Billy Dee Williams also said that if a role is offered to him even after "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens," he would be very willing to accept it.
In other "Star Wars Episode 7 news from Cinema Blend https://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Might-Finally-Bring-Back-Lando-Calrissian-Get-Details-69717.html, said that the return of the original characters like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Princess Leia offered a window for Lando Calrissian.
"Yes, we think that Williams' phone will ring, emitting a lens flare of Abrams-led optimism that Lando will return!" it said.
All these news and rumors regarding "Star Wars Episode 7" have gotten to JJ Abrams nerves, if reports are to be believed, so much so that he has demanded from Disney to release the film in the summer rather than in December this year.
