Formula One driver Michael Schumacher had reportedly sustained severe head injuries while skiing in the slopes of Meribel back in December 2013.
Although Michael Schumacher was brought out of his medically induced coma, the progress on his health condition reportedly remains “painfully slow” as the seven-time Formula One champion remains mute with “limited awareness,” according to the U.K’s Express.
Schumacher is reportedly currently being cared for by a strong medical team advised by Professor Jean-Francois Payen, who operated on the driver’s blood clots. He is reportedly currently being nursed and cared for at his Swiss mansion in Lake Geneva Switzerland where his wife and two children are, according to the International Business Times Australia.
“What tortures the public is the same thing that tortures the family — progress is slow, progress is uncertain,” said Peter Hamlyn, a consultant neurological and spinal surgeon.
The cost of Schumacher’s rehabilitation treatment has reportedly gone up to more than $19 million.
The details of Michael Schumacher’s slowly improving health condition has reportedly been kept private from the public. The driver’s family has reportedly requested the media stop speculating on Schumacher’s health condition.
Fans of the German racer as well as fellow Formula One drivers have continued to show support and hope that his health condition will continue to improve. Despite the immense support Schumacher is getting, his recovery may take a while.
“If you look at severe head injury victims who go on to make a good recovery — and I’m not saying all do — it will always be a story of years,” explained Hamlyn.
He continued, “The first months are dominated by question of survival. Gradually as the weeks and months go by those questions of survival turn into question of quality of survival. It’s a rollercoaster and if Michael Schumacher's rollercoaster takes him and his family somewhere happy then they will have been to places that will have been pretty unhappy on the way there. But I know they will have been buoyed by all the support that has been voiced."
Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has reportedly remained hopeful and supportive in her husband’s health as well.
“She has displayed in every way an exceptional willpower. She knew the seriousness of the situation and the long road that lay before them. She looks at things very clearly and makes every effort, and gives everything, which can help to improve the condition of her husband,” stated Professor Payen.
