Last night, "The Mentalist" bid farewell to fans around the world. Though the series had a happy ending, with Jane and Lisbon walking down the aisle, the conclusion was nevertheless bittersweet. Keep reading to find out what "The Mentalist" executive producers Tom Szentgyorgyi and Bruno Heller had to say about the future of your beloved characters. What will happen to our favorite characters after the final episode? Could a spinoff be in the works? Deadline recently sat down with Tom Szentgyorgyi to talk about "The Mentalist" series finale, as well as what could happen post-finale.

When asked what the future holds for Jane and Lisbon, and whether they will continue to work together at the FBI, Szentgyorgyi had an interesting response.

"Jane's building a house for his family. Lisbon will work at the FBI through her pregnancy until two weeks before she delivers, take a few months' maternity leave, then go back to kicking ass and arresting bad guys. It's what she does," explains Szentgyorgyi.

"Will Jane go back to working for the FBI with her? I don't know. I suspect he doesn't either," admits the executive producer and writer.

What about Kimball Cho? What's in his future?

"As for Cho, he will certainly continue to rise. Could the Chelsea Clinton administration see an FBI Director Cho? I don't see why not," wonders Szentgyorgyi.

Because Tim Kang's character Kimball Cho has been a clear standout on the show, Deadline then asked whether they have ever considered giving him a spinoff.

"The truth is, no, though Cho is a great character, and Tim Kang did an extraordinary job playing him," says Tom Szentgyorgyi.

Although he denies that a spinoff is in the works, Szentgyorgyi does suggest that the idea could be plausible and successful.

Entertainment Tonight also asked Bruno Heller, "The Mentalist" creator and executive producer, if the show would ever come back for a Season 8. Could there be a "Mentalist 2.0" in 10 years?

"Absolutely, it's a date. We'll all be there in 10 years. (Laughs.) Look, we don't foresee it. Like Robin said, the show is still in the top 10 and it's in the top 10 all over the world, and that is a testament to the enduring appeal of Robin and Simon," explains Heller.

"This is a business. I would love, love, love to work with Robin again, either playing Teresa Lisbon or Queen Elizabeth, if it comes to that. And Baker as well," admits the executive producer.

There it is, folks. The desire and passion are still there even though no plans have been made for another season or a spinoff. But who knows? Maybe "The Mentalist" will be back in some form or another in the future.
