Kim Bum is back. After an absence of two years from the small screen in Korea, the actor has taken a role in "Hide Your Identity," an upcoming tvN drama.
According to the actor's agency, King Kong Entertainment, Kim Bum has signed on for the role of homicide detective Cha Gun Woo.
"It's been a while since I last met my domestic fans so I'm very happy and excited," said Kim. "I found Cha Gun Woo as a very charming and interesting character. I'm really looking forward to working with the production crew and cast members. I will work hard during the filming."
Cha Gun Woo is a Yongsan-based detective assigned to Investigative Team 5, which hunts criminals using underground investigations. So, the title refers to the fact that criminals can run from the law but ultimately not hide their identify forever.
Investigative Team 5 is not a team that anyone can join but then Cha Gun Woo is not just any police detective. He was a top student at the police academy but left to enlist in the Naval Special Warfare Brigade. After his discharge, he joined the SWAT team, which deals with very dangerous criminals.
The detective drama is set to air in June, following the food-focused drama "Let's Eat 2." Kim Jung Min III, the Director of "Bad Guys," will direct "Hide Your Identity." Kang Hyun Sung, who wrote "Chosun Police Season 3," has written the screenplay.
Kim Bum's last drama was the saeguk "Goddess of Fire: Jeonji" with co-stars Moon Geun Young and Lee Sang Yoon. Before that he appeared in "That Winter The Wind Blows" with Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo." He is best known for his roles in the dramas "East of Eden," "Boys Over Flowers" and "Padam Padam: The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats."
During his absence from the Korean small screen Kim Bum did appear in a Chinese drama "The Micro Era of Love." The drama was described as the Chinese version of "Gossip Girls." His co-stars were Yang Mei, Zhou Bu Chang, Tang Wei, and Li Xi Rui.
Kim's appearance as a perfectionist restaurant owner in "The Micro Era of Love" made him even more popular with Chinese fans and generated plenty of endorsement and promotion deals.
In 2015 he can also be seen in the film "Lovers and Movies."
