The fourth season of ABC's political thriller "Scandal" premiered on Sep. 25, 2014. While the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes, has been open about having already planned the show's ending, there is still news on whether "Scandal" will be cancelled or renewed for season 5 because of its low ratings.
Reports from Seriable claim that "Scandal" will take its course and naturally end in about three years, but the show is still looking to indefinitely extend its run.
The Venture Capital Post reported that although it is highly unlikely for "Scandal" season 5 to be cancelled, its ratings would more than likely crash. The show's last season was the only scripted show on ABC that went up in ratings. The question however, is whether or not its audience will continue to increase to prevent the cancellation of season 5.
According to reports, the current season of "Scandal" was said to have lower ratings than the one it succeeded. This is why the question of cancellation or renewal continues to be uncertain for season 5.
There are various speculations about why "Scandal" is dropping in ratings, which caused some viewers to wonder if the season 5 will be cancelled. Some say that since it is NCAA basketball season, the show is losing its viewers. According to CarterMatt, however, there is not a very large crossover audience between college basketball and "Scandal."
Meanwhile, some blame "sloppy" story lines and "uncreative direction" for "Scandal's" season 4's low ratings. Others also claim daylight savings time as the reason for the show's slump.
"Scandal" season 4 episode 19, called "I'm Just a Bil" is set to air on April 16, 2015. The official synopsis of the episode reads, "Papa Pope is back! But taking down daddy could be the end for Olitz."
