The Playstation exclusive, Star Ocean 5, entitled "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" is the fifth in the series and will take place between "Ocean Star 2" and "Ocean Star 3." A trailer and a website has been released to coincide with the game's release.

The prologue of the Star Ocean 5 has been transcribed to English courtesy of Kotaku.

The prologue reads:

"Do the depths of space forbid peace for mankind - Centuries after leaving Earth, after a multitude of trials, with the creation and spread of the 'Galactic Federation', humanity was on the verge of unified order and peace."

"But the embers of conflict have begun to burn again. Over 6,000 light years from Earth, on the unsettled planet, 'Faicreed.' Just as so many times before, the waves of history begin from a remote planet."

Star Ocean 5 "Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness" is currently being developed by Tri-Ace, who developed the original "Ocean Star" for the Super Nintendo back in 1996. An artist known as Akiman is helming the game's character designs. Square Enix is set to publish the game.

Three characters have already been announced: Fedel Camus (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) the main protagonist, Miki Sorvesta (voiced by Nao Toyama) the heroine, and Lilia (voice actor unknown).

As for the gameplay, the latest game in the Star Ocean series features seamless real time battles, wherein the effectiveness of an attack depends on multiple factors such as the players from an opponent. There are also long and short range-specific attacks.

According to Gematsu, the Star Ocean game for PS4 and PS3 is currently 30% complete. It was also stated that the producer was not thinking of releasing a story downloadable content or a “full version” to be released later.

“I sincerely don’t want to do anything with this game that’ll upset people even a little bit,” Shuichi Kobayashi said.
