"General Hospital" spoilers revealed that Anthony Geary has just finished filming his last episode as Luke Spencer. The actor had been part of the popular ABC soap for 37 years.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Anthony Geary could not help but shed a few tears while filming his last scene. The entire cast and crew of "General Hospital" packed earlier than usual during Geary's last day and paid a special tribute to the actor. It was said that executive producer Frank Valentini created a video montage of some of the actor's most memorable scenes over the last 37 years.
Although the 68-year-old actor shared that he will be missing the entire "GH" cast, he said that he is excited for the next chapter of his life.
"I'm excited to raise the curtain on act 3, to reinvent myself in my new home to pursue whatever opportunity there may be. It's an exciting prospect to me," he told Entertainment Weekly. "They've done a wonderful job of wrapping up the character. So this seems like the ideal time to go."
Geary added that he is very optimistic about "General Hospital's" future. He shared that just like the other actors, he felt scared when rumors started circulating online that "GH" could be cancelled. The actor, however, pointed out that there was renewed interest for soap operas.
"It's enjoying a bit of a resurgence," Geary said.
"It was scary there for two or three years when every thing was being cancelled. The network thought that talk shows should take over because people weren't going to be interested in soaps. But there has been a resurgence and I think that's hopeful sign."
"I don't believe it's the end of the medium. Serialization is a great way to tell stories."
