The media hype over the Josh Duggar scandal may be far from over. A source close to the family reportedly claimed that one of Josh's molestation victims are filing a civil suit against Jim Bob and Michelle's eldest son.
It has previously been reported that four of Josh's victims include some of his sisters while the other one was a friend of their family. Is the victim pursuing the case one of Josh's sisters?
"I have heard that the [non-family] victim is preparing to sue," a source reportedly told In Touch Weekly. "This whole sordid affair with Josh rattled a lot of people, including the victim, who had to relive this nightmare all over again all while watching Josh's parents go on TV and whitewash what happened."
This time, it seems that the Josh Duggar scandal would affect not only the Duggar family, but the key people in their church as well.
"All the church elders who knew about this will have to be named," the source added.
This new development might just put more pressure to the Duggar family amid the Josh Duggar scandal. Daily Mail reported that though the statute of limitations has run out on filing criminal charges, the victim can still file a civil suit years after the incident in the state of Arkansas.
"There's an argument to be made that, 'Yes, I know what you did to me then, but [at X years of age] I couldn't comprehend the effect it would have on me now,'" Little Rock Attorney Jason Files reportedly said.
The civil suit might also reportedly force Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar to testify.
"Where there's no legitimate threat of prosecution, the Fifth Amendment shouldn't apply. I'd argue that there's no basis for a refusal to answer."
The "19 Kids and Counting" family has already been through a lot of pressure after news about the Josh Duggar scandal broke. Critics have scrutinized how Jim Bob and Michelle handled Josh's mistakes in the past and the renewal of the show for another season remains uncertain.
