"Prometheus" movie fans are graced with great news. Ridley Scott is definitely directing the sequel to 2012 hit sci-fi film. "Prometheus 2" will be Ridley Scott's next big project and he is already scouting out the perfect locations for the film.
The 77-years-old English director, Ridley Scott is famous for films like, "Alien", "Blade Runner", "Gladiator", and most recently, "Exodus: Gods and Kings." Scott has confirmed he will not only produce "Prometheus 2" but will also take the director's seat.
In a recent interview with Empire, the "Gladiator" director Ridley Scott stated that his next project is the sequel to 2012's "Prometheus."
"I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which was Prometheus 2", Scott added.
For all those who need a little reminder, "Prometheus" served as a prequel to the "Alien" franchise. The 2012 film delved into the origins of the intelligent life on planet Earth. The sci-fi movie revealed how iconic Xenomorphs came into existence.
The film's screenplay was not up to the mark and critics were skeptical of the film's success. However, it did well at the box-office.This opened a brand new dimension for a developed franchise that can run parallel to the "Alien" movie series.
In an interview with The Australian via Bloody Disgusting, Ridley Scott said that with "Prometheus 2" he would like to move away from "gods and dragons." The director offered insight into the project. According to him, fans of the "Prometheus" can expect a new kind of extraterrestrial life in "Prometheus 2".
"Prometheus 2" is likely to go into production in 2016 and is likely to release in 2017. If that is the case, fans who all are waiting to see Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" will have to wait for two more years.
Before sitting with the writers for his next movie "Promethues 2", Ridley Scott is busy in marketing his upcoming movie "The Martin" starring Matt Damon. The film is based on the bestselling novel of Andy Weir. "The Martin" will launch on October 2, 2015 in United States.
