Actor Lee Ki Woo, 32, is practicing his parenting skills. That's because he is going to play a devoted dad in the new film, "Bean Sprout."

It will be his first film role since he appeared in the 2011 film, "Our Neighbor's Crime," but fans have since had the chance to see him in three dramas, "Flower Boy Ramen Shop," "Standby" and "Virus."

In his new film, he will play Il Hong, a children's book writer, who loses his beloved wife and is left to care for his young daughter. When his wife dies, Il Hong feels as if the world has ended. But he can't afford to let his sadness cripple him. The single father must stay strong to care for his child.

The story has been described as "heartwarming."

It's bound to be a more heartwarming role than Lee Ki Woo's role in "The Virus." His "Virus" character Kim Se Jin was an infectious disease specialist. In that drama, the world faced an epidemic that could take an inflicted person from infection to death in three days. Kim Se Jin had to stay cool and collected.

In Standby, a 2012 sitcom about producers and writers, he played Ryu Ki Woo. Lee is also known for his performances in the films, "The Classic" in 2003, "Tale of Cinema" in 2005 and "A Love to Kill" in 2005.

He is perhaps best known for his role as "The Pole" a.k.a. Choi Kang Hyuk in "Flower Boy Ramen Shop." He was so named because his character was tall and thin. After completing that series about a ramen shop staffed by pretty boys, he made headlines when he announced he was dating his co-star from the series, Lee Chung Ah. In "Flower Boy Ramen Shop," he was the man Lee Chung Ah's character was supposed to marry but instead she falls for the character played by Jung Il Woo.

His co-star in the film "Bean Sprout" is Jang Jee Hin, who recently appeared as Jung Sun Woo in "My Daughter Seo Young" and Lee Se Young in "Big."

The actress seems to be prepared for the fact that the film's audience may want to bring along some tissues. At a press conference for the film, Jang Hee Hin announced that she was "honored to be in such a touching movie."

The film will be released in June. Won Suk Ho is the director.
