The company hopes to capitalize on the star's popularity in China, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong. He was ranked at the top of a Japanese star voting sites for three weeks in a row in August 2015.

The contract is significant, as Park Shi Hoo did not work in Korea for almost two years. He denied the allegations, saying that their relationship was consensual, but her charges set off a police investigation and several lawsuits. The charges were eventually dropped and the lawsuits settled, but not before the scandal had a negative effect on Park Shi Hoo's career.

Park Shi Hoo considered a comeback role in the 2014 drama "Golden Cross" but netizen reaction was still so negative that he decided against the part. During the last two years he has worked in other countries. He appeared in a Chinese film titled "Fragrance," which was a box office success.

Then he was cast in the film "Love After Love" with Yoon Eun Hye. That film was shot in China and Korea and will be released at the same time in Korea, China and Japan. Her fan club protested her participation in the film but she remained committed.

He returns to dramaland in "Neighborhood Hero," playing an ex-secret agent who opens a neighborhood bar. As his character becomes friendly with the regulars at the bar he learns about crimes in the neighborhood. One of his bar regulars is an aspiring police officer. Park's character trains him in secret and the duo decides to fight crime together. They become neighborhood heroes.

It was reported that Girls Generation's Yuri might also appear in the drama.

Park Shi Hoo is known for his roles in the dramas "Iljimae," "The Princess' Man," and "Princess Prosecutor." He appeared in the 2012 film "Confession of a Murder," which was released after his scandal and earned critical praise, especially in Japan.
