Jo Kwon's performance as King Herod in the musical "Jesus Christ Superstar" ended this weekend after a six-week run but he won't soon forget how many of his friends and co-workers showed up to support his efforts. While appearing in the Andrew Llloyd Weber musical, the 2AM singer also played a part in the KBS drama, "God of the Workplace." He portrayed the polite office worker Kye Kyung Woo.
The atmosphere on the set of "God of the Workplace" must have been friendly because his fellow actors showed up at the theater to support his efforts. His fellow cast members Kim Hye Soo, Oh Ji Ho, Jung Yoo Mi and Jun Hye Bin arrived together on one of the last nights of the show and took pictures with him backstage. He uploaded the photos to Twitter along with a message.
The message said, "The loving employees of "God of the Workplace" came to see my show. Today I am the king. Ha ha ha ha!"
The king remark referred to Kim Hye Soo's character Miss Kim, the queenly super temp who ruled the workplace in "God of the Workplace." The drama focused on the dynamics of office politics in modern Korea.
In the first picture that he posted, he stood next to Kim Hye Soo, dressed in his King Herod costume and wore his full stage makeup. In the other photo all the cast members who came surrounded him.
Even though he is new to acting and this was his first musical, he felt sure he could master the character of Herod, the historical king who taunted Jesus Christ.
"With this role in 'Superstar' I felt confident that I could deliver the satirical character that is Herod," said Jo Kwon. "I thought I could deliver an impressive performance as the character."
During the musical's run, several kpop and kdrama celebrities stopped by to visit Jo Kwon and offer support. It's no surprise that Wonder Girls Sun Ye stopped by and snapped some pictures with him since they have been best friends since they were 13. His other best friend, miss A's Min also visited the theater to cheer him on.
He took photos with other celebrities that stopped, including YoonA, Wonder Girls Sohee and Lim, J.Y. Park and Changmin. Jo Kwon's quirky, often hyperactive personality has earned him appearances on almost every Korean variety show. And it has made him plenty of loyal friends.
