Yoon Sang Hyun is once again winning hearts in a drama. He stars as the adorably nerdy public defender Cha Kwan Woo in "I Hear Your Voice." Despite his white socks and derpy behavior, it looks as if he may well become one of the love interests for the show's heroine,
Here are some facts you may not know about this actor.
1. He got a late start in show business, not landing a role until he was 32. By the time he got his first role, he had already completed his military service and tried his hand at several trades. He sold fried rice near a university. He sold clothes at a street market. He was discovered when a talent agency saw a picture of him that a friend had posted online.
"Somehow I debuted as an actor, but I never dreamed of becoming one," said Yoon Sang Hyun.
Even after his debut, he had doubts.
"At first I was just imitating acting and wondered how I could be any good?"
2. Actress Yoon Eun Hye saved his career. He was terrified of actresses early on in his career. He worried he could not act if he felt this way and almost gave up on acting. Yoon Eun Hye, although younger, was a more seasoned professional. When they appeared together in "My Fair Lady," she helped him get past his fears. As a result, they became good friends.
"During filming we were like brother and sister," said Yoon Sang Hyun.
3. He played the Hallyu star Oska in "Secret Garden" but he really is a Hallyu star in Japan. Besides appearing in that drama and "My Fair Lady," he contributed music to both soundtracks. He wanted to be a singer before he became an actor but his voice always disappointed at auditions. His singing career began when he appeared in and sang in "Queen of Housewives." Since then he has released successful singles and albums. He was the first Korean actor to release an album in Japan.
4. Besides introducing him as a singer, the drama "Queen of Housewives" was also a turning point in his acting career. The outpouring of love he felt from his fans gave him new confidence.
"It's a really remarkable feeling," he said.
5. He goes on blind dates. A lot of them. He recently admitted that he went on 12 blind dates in the last year.
"It's not that I have impossibly high standards," he said. "It's just that I want my heart to flutter."
That's only fair since he makes fans' hearts flutter.
