Chrissie Hynde hit the news and sparked outrage once again by branding today's pop stars as sex workers, reported by Mirror. It comesdays after the former Pretenders star faced an online storm after claiming women who get drunk and dress immodestly may be inviting rape .
This time she hit out at scantily-clad singers, claiming they have created a 'pornography culture' by 'bumping and grinding' on stage, Mirror reported.
"I don't think sexual assault is a gender issue as such, I think it's very much all around us now," she said in an interview with BBC's woman's hours. "It's provoked by this pornography culture, it's provoked by pop stars who call themselves feminists. Maybe they're feminists on behalf of prostitutes - but they are no feminists on behalf of music, if they are selling their music by bumping and grinding and wearing their underwear in videos."
"That's a kind of feminism - but, you know, you're a sex worker is what you are. I think it's provocative in a way that has nothing to do with music. I would say those women are responsible for a great deal of damage," she added, Mirror noted.
It appeared that Chrissie is referring to scantily-clad stars such as Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and more. However, she did not name anyone directly.
The 63-year-old said she blames herself for being preyed on by a biker gang when she was 21. She even said that she takes full responsibility of the event in which she was forced to perform sexual acts under threat of violence by the gang in Ohio, US.
"You can't (hang around) with people who wear 'I Heart Rape' and 'On Your Knees' badges... You can't paint yourself into a corner and then say whose brush is this? You have to take responsibility. If you play with fire you get burnt," she said.
She also claimed that women who are drunk and incapable, or dressed unsuitably, may be enticing rapists, Mirror said. "If I'm walking around in my underwear and I'm drunk? Who else's fault can it be?" she concluded.
