The meditation app Headspace gets new investors from Hollywood. Peter Chernin's The Chernin Group is rumored to have funded a huge sum of $30 million to Headspace.
The list of investors includes Lorne Michaels' Broadway Video Ventures, Shari Redstone's Advancit Capital, Allen & Co., Breyer Capital, WME, Freelands Ventures, and Deerfield Management. Individuals that participated in the Headspace app investment are Ryan Seacrest, Jared Leto, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner and most importantly Jessica Alba and husband Cash Warren, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sean Brecker, the CEO of Headspace said that "We're excited that we have been able to attract such an amazing group of investors to help us achieve our ambitious plans." Brecker also added that the apps "help people prioritize the health of their minds by taking proactive steps for a healthier, happier life."
The Venice, California-based start-up which has more than 3 million users now was actually founded in 2010. The service focuses on offering mindfulness exercise to improve ones' ability to perform, health and relationships. The service can be availed on monthly subscription basis for $12.95 and lifetime subscription for $419.95. Headspace also provides access to web content, life event, a podcast- Radio Headspace and books.
The apps offer a most important program called "Be in the moment" which guides the user on short meditation sessions to train the mind that start from as little as 10 minutes to an hour.
Andy Puddicombe, the co-founder and mindfulness expert said that "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver on this exciting mission." Andy added that "As a team we are deeply passionate about transforming the culture of mind health toward that of prevention. We believe this funding round will allow us to accelerate efforts to help people be healthier and happier, by making authentic, engaging, and practical tools accessible to everyone," reported The Wrap.
