Coach Byron Scott shared some good news for Los Angeles Lakers fans as he promised that they would bounce back from being one of the worst defensive teams last year, with Roy Hibbert as anchor in the middle.
In an interview with OC Register, he said their defense will start with Roy Hibbert, who perfected the art of jumping straight up to contest shots without fouling.
And Roy Hibbert is fully on board with the idea of focusing on defense for the LA Lakers as he worked out with a nutritionist to drop 14 pounds to be more agile and quicker on the court. He also said that Kobe Bryant reached out to him soon after he got back from China.
"It was funny, I guess, looking back. Ten seconds. I just told him, 'I'll be ready on the defensive end to help whatever way I can.' He was all about that. I will say that," he told the Los Angeles Times.
But Coach Byron Scott said that Jordan Clarkson will also help improve the LA Lakers defense with a year of experience under his belt.
"I think it is starting to be molded in that direction of being a much better defensive team. We still have a long way to go. We have a lot to work on. And I think we're probably ahead of schedule right now," he said.
"These guys have been coming in every day, working out for the past six-to-eight weeks. So that's something I'm very encouraged about. But from the defensive standpoint everybody that is here, they know how I am about that."
Meanwhile, fans of Kobe Bryant hoping for some news on the LA Lakers superstar would be happy to note that preservation would be the keyword for the coaching staff this coming 2015-1016 NBA season.
"I think the biggest decision is playing time, trying to make that as limited as possible and also back-to-back games. That's something we have to talk about," he said. "Obviously we want to keep him as efficient as possible, but I know he knows his body better than anybody."
