It has been rumored before that Patrick Dempsey's character was killed off "Grey's Anatomy" because of an alleged fight with the show's creator, Shonda Rhimes.
But is Ellen Pompeo now involved in the rift and is she siding with Shonda Rhimes?
Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo have bonded in the set of "Grey's Anatomy," playing boyfriend and girlfriend, mentor and apprentice, and later, husband and wife throughout the seasons of the ABC drama.
In fact, Patrick Dempsey teared up when he talked about Ellen Pompeo after his departure from the show earlier this year.
"It was magic. It's beautiful. We're like a married couple. It's 10 years, and it was magic from the beginning. Chemistry right away," Patrick told Entertainment Weekly in April.
However, Ellen Pompeo seems to be playing another tune when she recently said that "Grey's Anatomy"could do very well even without Patrick Dempsey.
"It's like, Annalise Keating carries the show, Olivia Pope carries the show," Ellen Pompeo reportedly told Entertainment Weekly recently. "But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone."
"Why can't I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can't I be on that poster by myself," the actress added.
Ellen Pompeo referred to the other two Shonda Rhimes shows in the TGIT (Thank God It's Thursday) block - Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, on "How to Get Away With Murder," and Olivia Pope, played by Kerry Washington, in "Scandal."
Us Weekly published an article about the trailer of the show's season 12 which premieres this Thursday. The trailer reportedly shows that everything has changed since Dr. Derek Shepherd passed away.
"Indeed, Meredith's life appears to have been turned upside down in the months since her husband's death," Us Weekly reported about the "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 trailer.
"In one brief scene from the 20-second trailer, she runs down a hallway littered with toys to find one of her new roommates smashing a hole in the wall with a sledgehammer," the article continued.
