Action Sports Star Erik Roner Dies In Skydiving Accident

Action sports star Erik Roner who starred in MTV's Nitro Circus was killed in a skydiving accident on Monday.

The 39-year-old star who was performing skydiving at charity golf tournament in Olympic Valley died dashing on to a tree on Monday morning. Roner was one among the three-man parachute team that was performing the stunt near Lake Tahoe that morning, reported NBC News. When Roner attempted to land, he hit hard on to tree and died on the spot while two others landed safely.

"Erik just came in and clipped a tree and everything was horrible from thereafter. Having everybody watch this it makes it even more tragic, more horrible," said Roy Tuscany, Roner's friend and co-founder and executive director of the High Fives Foundation. Tuscany added that "This is the biggest loss for the action sports community; this is comparable to when Shane passed away." "Everyone needs to focus on Erik's family," he noted, according to USA Today

Erik Roner's Passion For Stunts

Roner was involved in Skydiving and BASE jumping since 2000, he was also one of the pioneers in ski BASE jumping who has performed the stunt in various films. He performed many unbelievable stunts one of which includes flying on a lawn chair tied to 90 helium balloons portraying the movie "UP." The video uploaded in YouTube had more than 80,000 views.

The star athlete said in an interview with Freeskier Magazine in 2011 that every time a person travels out his true colors come out. The MTV star added that he always wanted to travel on his skis and explore the entire world. "It's a great life. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world," noted Roner.

MTV Saddened By Erik Roner's Loss

"We at MTV and MTV2 are saddened to hear about Erik's passing, and will miss the boundless energy, fearlessness and good vibes he brought to our audience. Our hearts go out to his friends and family," noted the network in a statement.
