Kim So Eun has taken a role in a drama toon. If you're not sure what a drama toon is, it's a fun new form of entertainment that combines the elements of a drama with those of a web toon and features manga-like visuals.
Her drama toon, "Roll The Dice," will be distributed online and through mobile portals in Korea.
Kim So Eun will play a character that starts out being timid but becomes more outgoing as she experiences extraordinary things. Each episode features a mission carried out by high school students. So Eun's participation in these missions will help her character become more outgoing.
"When I first read the script, it was so different that I thought to myself, what kind of drama is this," said Kim. "Each episode has missions that are very imaginative and the process of carrying out these missions is innovative. This will be the first time I act in a drama or play a character in a genre like this and it's a lot of fun. I think it'll be an extremely unconventional drama."
The drama toon is also called "After School Bokbulbok." Bokbulbok means "luck, no luck" and refers to a game of chance featured on a popular variety show.
Fantagio, an entertainment agency, and Group 8, a production company, which has previously made manga adaptations of popular dramas, will produce the drama toon. Jung Jung Hwa, director of the comedies "Flower Boy Ramen Shop" and "Flower Boy Next Door," will direct.
Kim So Eun made her acting debut in the 2004 film "Two Guys" but became well known through her supporting role in the series "Boys Over Flowers." In that series, she played Chu Ga Eul, Geum Jan Di's best friend and the girl who likes So Yi Jung, the character played by Kim Bum. That drama was based on a Japanese manga Hana Yori Dango.
The actress was praised for her performance in "Empress Cheonchu." For that drama she learned how to ride and shoot a bow and arrow. She appeared in the daily drama "A Good Day for the Wind To Blow" and in the weekend drama "A Thousand Kisses." Last year, she and Jang Woo Hyuk starred in a Chinese drama called "Secret Angel."
This year, she played Princess Sukhwi in the saeguk "Horse Doctor." Alogn with Victoria of the group f(x), Kim So Eun has signed on to host the variety show "Glitter," which provides fashion and beauty tips to women in their 20s. The show began airing last week.
"Roll the Dice" can be seen in September.
