On a recent episode of the variety show "1 Night, 2 Days," actor Joo Won mentioned his "Good Doctor" co-star Moon Chae Won. This reminded singer Sung Shi Kyung of his music video romance with the actress.
He mentioned a kiss scene in the music video that was filmed six years ago.
"We filmed it for a really long time but it was cut into a really short part in the music video," said Sung Shi Kyung. "I hope she thinks about me occasionally."
Then he went on to say that 89 percent of drama couples date their co-stars.
That seems like a very high percentage. Plenty of kdrama couples do meet on set and some even go on to marry. But the math doesn't quite work out. If you figure that any month will see more than a dozen new couples in kdramaland, the number of couples that go on to date in real life does not quite reach 89 percent.
Actor Jang Dong Gun met his wife Go So Young on the set of the drama "Love Wind Love Song" and singer Eugene met her future husband Ki Tae Young on the set of "Creating Destiny." Han Ga In met her husband Yun Jung Hoon on the set of the drama "Yellow Handkerchief."
Yoo In Na, who appeared in "You're the Best Lee Soon Shin," met Ji Hyun Woo when he played her time-traveling boyfriend on last year's "Queen Inhyun's Man." Lee Chung Ah is dating her "Flower Boy Ramen Shop" co-star Lee Ki Woo. And most recently, Kang Kyung Joon has confirmed he is dating actress Jang Shin Young who he met on the set "Thorn Flower," a daily drama.
But lots of couples that fans wish would go on to date in real life don't. They remain friends and colleagues. Take Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo, Park Yoo Chun and Yoon Eun Hye or Suzy and Lee Seung Gi. They seemed so perfect on screen together but it never went any farther.
After "I Hear Your Voice" ended, Lee Bo Young announced plans to marry Ji Sung, not Lee Jong Suk. Son Ye Jin has not announced she is dating Kim Nam Gil her romantic co-star in "Shark."
Kissing a co-star may also inspire romantic feelings in only one of the actors involved. Joo Won is the perfect example of that. After he finished starring in "Level 7 Civil Servant," he mentioned that he was attracted to his co-star Kang Hee Choi. But she made it quite clear that she never dates co-stars. So it might have hurt Joo Won's feelings to hear that his getting rejected was the exception rather than the rule.
What do you think of Sung Shi Kyung's statement? Is 89 percent exaggerating? What percentage do you think would be more accurate?
