2PM's Junho is taking up the sword for a new role in the movie "Memories of the Sword." It's a historical film about swordplay, betrayal and revenge. There are no details yet as to which role Lee Junho will play, but it will be a supporting one in an already impressive cast that includes Lee Byung Hun, Jeon Do Heon and Kim Go Eun .
According to a representative of his management company, JYP Entertainment, "Junho has been confirmed for a role in the upcoming movie, "Memories of the Sword." We are currently working out the details."
It will be Junho's second film. Although he is still a rookie actor, he won praise for his debut performance as Detective Squirrel in the popular film "Cold Eyes," which co-starred Sol Kyung Gu, Jung Woo Sung and Han Hyo Joo.
Despite being nervous about his debut, he managed to stand out among his well-known co-stars. He worried about his acting ability throughout the filming and when he attended the film's technical preview he was still nervous.
"I just wanted to watch the movie," said Junho, who came to the public's attention after winning "Superstar Survival 2006." "I was watching the other actors act during the technical preview, but then I appeared and I didn't seem to fit in. I was so worried that I did not match up to their skill level. I've been comforted now because so many people from the press have praised me."
Hopefully, he will be able to approach his new role in a more relaxed manner. But although it will be his second film, it will be his first historical role.
The story begins at the end of the Goryeo era, when three masters of the sword, Jong Gul, Seol Rang and Deok Gi, are fighting together for their freedom. When Deok Gi betrays the other two fighters, his betrayal leads to Jong Gul's death, Seol Rang runs away with Jong Gul's infant daughter, Hong Kee, vowing to exact revenge.
Deok Gi knows that the daughter will one day return for him.
For 18 years, Seol Rang trains Hong Kee to become the best sword fighter in the kingdom. When her talents are discovered, she learns how her father died. She also learns that she must take revenge against the woman who raised her. Horrified and hurt, she leaves home.
The movie will begin filming in September and is expected to premiere next year.
Park Heung Shik will direct.
