As the Thanksgiving weekend shopping season comes to an end on Cyber Monday, video game buffs are scurrying to buy their favorite video game console. Since video game consoles are among the hottest selling items on Black Friday, Cyber Monday shoppers would be looking for the best bundled deals and asking themselves, "Should I get Sony's PS4 or Microsoft's Xbox One?"
Video games and consoles like the PS4 and the Xbox One are expensive; that's why the Black Friday-Cyber Monday weekend is the best time to grab one. Gamers are also looking to update their systems; perhaps switch from their PC gaming to a console. For the last two years, video games and consoles have been the leading holiday sales product, the Consumer Technology Association said.
"Many families are still upgrading to the latest generation consoles and it appears they will be using Black Friday and the surrounding shopping period (including Cyber Monday) to do so," CTA's chief economist Dr. Shawn DuBravac in a USA Today report.
While most game titles and consoles like PS2 and Xbox One had similar discounts this year compared to last year, they Cyber Monday 2015 sales might be the ideal time to switch to a new console. Games like "Halo 5: Guardians and Star Wars Battlefront" have been bundled with game consoles, adding value to consoles like PS4 and Xbox One.
"We've had bundles for year and years in video games but these are very, very stylized," Steve Koenig, senior director of market research at CTA's was quoted as saying by USA Today. "I think Star Wars is going to be a huge hook around gaming this holiday."
With retailers seeking to get rid of inventory before the New Year, Target will extend their electronics sales deals till rest of the week. Walmart moved its Cyber Monday sale to Sunday, since more shoppers have Internet at home.
Both the PS4 and Xbox One have a price tag of $299.
Some of the touted features of the PS4 include a greater controller-Dual Shock 4, and it has easy sharing capabilities (via Twitch, YouTube). In 2016, PS4 will see a number of new titles from its pipeline, such as "The Last Guardian." Sony will also release a new Playstation 4 VR headphone
For the Xbox One, its advantages include "backward compatibility," meaing your games for Xbox 360 will be "playable" on the newer consoles. Comparing PS4 vs. Xbox One, the latter has more apps. The Xbox One has a strong lineup of games including "Forza Motorsport 6," "Rise of the Tomb Raider" and "Halo 5: Guardians"
