Fans were curious about the potential chemistry between actors Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki who will co-star in the upcoming drama “Descendants of the Sun.” Once fans view the most recent trailer for that drama, they need wonder no more.
The trailer for the KBS drama features Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki in an exchange that is intensely romantic.
Song Joong Ki as Captain Yoo Shi Jin asks Song Hye Kyo’s character Kang Mo Yeon if she is dating anyone.
“Since you’re a doctor, I bet you don’t have a boyfriend. You’re too busy,” he says.
“Since you’re a soldier, you must not have a girlfriend,” she asks. “You’re too intense.”
“Someone needs to give an answer here,” he says and the two smile at each other.
In a May interview with Elle, Song Hye Kyo was quoted as saying she was impressed with Song Joong Ki.
"Joong Ki is such a manly guy in contrast to his pretty appearance," she said.
The trailer shows the attraction could be mutual.
Unlike other trailers, which can be misleading because they are filmed before a drama is even written, this one might actually contain a scene that has already been filmed. The drama wrapped up filming early in the morning of December 30. That is right on schedule.
“Descendants of the Sun” is set to air at the end of January or the beginning of February after the completion of “The Merchant: Gaek Ju 2015.”
Filming an entire drama before it airs has been unusual in k-drama production but the practice is becoming more common. Many dramas are now fully written and produced so they can be shown in China at the same time as they are aired in Korea. China has stricter broadcasting rules. This will also be the case with “Saimdang: The Herstory,” starring Lee Young Ae and Song Seung Hoon, and “Uncontrollably Fond,” starring Kim Woo Bin and Suzy Bae.
Filming for “The Descendants of the Sun” was delayed slightly when Song Joong Ki was sent to the hospital for an injury sustained during an action scene. A few shoots were canceled but production ultimately wrapped up according to schedule.
“Descendants of the Sun” is set in the fictional war torn country Wookreukeu. Song Joong KI’s character is a soldier deployed there as part of the peacekeeping effort. Song Hye Kyo plays a doctor with an international humanitarian organization.
It’s a dramatic background for a love affair.
Kim Eun Sook, who wrote “The Heirs,” wrote the screenplay with Kim Won Suk, who wrote the screenplay for “The Queen’s Classroom.”
