2016 starts off with the January 4 premiere of the highly-anticipated dramatic adaptation of the popular web comic, "Cheese in the Trap."
Based on the on-going Naver comic, "Cheese in the Trap" stars Kim Go Eun (Coin Locker Girl, Memories of the Sword) as Hong Seol, a female college student who returns to academia after a lengthy break. She works diligently when studying and during her part-time jobs, due to her underprivileged background.
Kim is renown for her dramatic portrayal of emotionally conflicted women and "Cheese in the Trap" provides an opportunity to show off her comedic, girl-next-door charm.
Park Hae Jin (My Love from the Star) is Yoo Jung, the seemingly perfect senior of Hong Seol.
5urprise's Seo Kang Joon (What's Happening With This Family) rounds out the main cast as Baek In Ho.
The martial arts drama, "Moorim School," has the potential to reinvigorate the oft-clichéd teen genre.
Lee Hyun Woo (To The Beautiful You) is Yoon Shi Woo, an acclaimed K-pop idol who enrolls in Moorim School, an international academy, after a crushing scandal. He is a self-absorbed musical prodigy whose personality is reshaped by the morality of Moorim.
Hongbin of VIXX (Glorious Day) portrays Wang Chi Ang, a wealthy student who is reluctantly paired with Shi Woo as his roommate while Seo Ye Ji (Super Daddy Yeol) is Sim Soon Duk, the heroine of the drama.
"Moorim School" premieres on January 16 on KBS2 in the 10 p.m. KST time slot currently occupied by "Oh My Venus."
"Madame Antoine" is a jTBC psychological romantic comedy starring Han Ye Seul (Birth of a Beauty) and Sung Joon (High Society). Han is the title character, a renown fortune-teller who relies on her keen instinct and intuition to determine the future of her clients, rather than supernatural powers.
Sung Joon, who previously portrayed a psychotic psychoanalyst in "Jekyll, Hyde, and I" returns to the profession as Choi Soo Hyun, a therapist who is driven to prove that true love is nonexistent.
"Madame Antoine" is scheduled to premiere on January 16. The series will air on Fridays and Saturdays in the 8:30 p.m. KST time slot.
Jang Na Ra (Fated to Love You) and Yoo In Na (My Love from the Star) return to Korean drama in MBC's "One More Happy Ending." They portray members of the former idol group, Angels, a disbanded quartet that was completed by Yoo Da In (Plus Nine Boys) and Seo In Young (Hooray for Love).
Jang is Han Mi Mo, a divorcee who channels her experience into her work as a remarriage consultant.
"One More Happy Ending" premieres on MBC on January 20 and will air in the Wednesday-Thursday 10 p.m. KST time slot.
Continuing dramas to watch include "Oh My Venus," which is scheduled to conclude its 16-episode run on January 5 and "Reply 1988" which will likely reveal the identity behind the husband of Sung Duksun (Hyeri of Girl's Day) in its January 16 finale.
